February 2, 2007 - WorldScape announces first ever “Call for ScenePlays”

Albuquerque, New Mexico - During an invited talk at the 2nd Annual New Media conference at the University of New Mexico, Peter Rogina, President of WorldScape Inc. presented the company’s immersive imaging direction and announced a call for “ScenePlays”. The talk focused on the capture of real world environments using large arrays of high-resolution synchronized video cameras and the associated viewing of the captured environments using immersive display technology. “In-home experiences are quickly approaching with the advent of high-quality, low cost 3D display devices. Because WorldScape has been focused on bringing cutting-edge processing and multi-sensor solutions to bear for the government, we are leaders in supplying the enabling technologies to capture and produce real world-based experiences to satisfy the demand for immersive training, education, and entertainment applications. This has been a goal for WorldScape since the company’s inception,” said Mr. Rogina.

Speaking to a largely film making audience, Mr. Rogina described some of the challenges that producers of immersive experiences will face and the differences between traditional film production methodologies and skills. “We won’t be able to rely on traditional techniques to produce immersive content. Besides the obvious lighting and sound challenges, there will be the fact that viewers will have freedom to “look around”. The well known “screenplay” will yield to a “ScenePlay” and mainstay techniques of filming, such as cuts and pans, will have limited if an applicability.”

Mr. Rogina then announced the first ever “Call for ScenePlays”. The judged competition will be for submitted “ScenePlays” up to 5 minutes in length and will offer access to WorldScape’s CamArray™ product for the production. “We’re opening up a new realm of story telling and educational possibilities. This is a very exciting time and there’s a lot to be learned.”
